Prismatic Basalt Columns - Faial

3 comments:

  1. Prismatic columns are formed when deep lava flows cool slowly, this causes shrinkage and the most popular form taken is hexagonal. The number of column sides does vary and some are almost square. These at Faial are the best structures available in which to observe and note this feature.
